Parihaka Sunday
Author/Contributors: Sue Mepham
We went on a hīkoi to the urupā
A place of death, now a place of life
We walked together to the urupā
Hui mai, haere mai
We sang and prayed at the urupā
With the tui and pīwakawaka
Speaking peace across our land
Maungārongo ki te whenua
We shared the story at the urupā
The men of peace from Parihaka
Three men died and here they lay
Haere rā, auē
We planted trees at the urupā
A living korowai aroha
The children helped, they worked and played
Mauri ora, tēnei
Te hīkoi haere ki te urupā
Kei te karakia, kei te waiata
Kei te maumahara o Parihaka
Me te kaupapa rangimārie
