The Word

This is a song written by Hannah Thompson-Holloway, Malcolm Gordon and Adelaide Dunn. It is based on the prologue to John’s Gospel, ‘In the beginning was the Word….’ It was important to the writers to try and keep as close to the familiar wording of the passage, and make the melody as intuitive as possible. Malcolm shared the song in Australia in late 2019, and then reworked the verse melody with Sue Mepham and Andrew Harray. The song took on an added dimension when Mish Graham contributed sign language to the music video. Congregations are encouraged to learn the signing for the chorus, it is particularly effective with children.
