Christ before me
Author/Contributors: Malcolm Gordon and Kirstin Cant
This song is based on St Patrick’s Breastplate, an ancient Christian prayer acknowledging Christ’s presence in all places and people. Psalm 139 asks God, ‘Where can I go to get away from You?’ The answer is, of course, nowhere. But God is not merely present in all places and people. God’s presence is never simply benign, it is transformative and redemptive. When God appears in the burning bush, the very ground around it is hallowed. So it is for our lives and our communities, for these are places where Christ has walked, relationships where Christ is at work. Nothing is beyond the saving reach of God, nothing is untouched by the saving grace of God.
